Insurance

Here we present the most important insurances: Personal liability, occupational disability, household effects and travel abroad. Check regularly whether your life situation has changed and whether any adjustments need to be made to the sum insured. Independent magazines and portals such as Finanztest or Finanztip also provide information on this topic. You can also contact the insurance companies directly to inquire, obtain information and obtain offers.

The private liability insurance is one of the most important insurances. It also protects you against financial risks that threaten your very existence. If a person suffers damage due to your fault, this can result in enormously high follow-up costs for medical treatment or permanent health impairments. In the case of damage to objects caused by you, personal liability covers the costs. This can be, for example, in the case of damage within your rented apartment. Often there is a special tariff for families or partners. There are favorable tariffs starting from approx. 75 euro per year.

An occupational disability insurance is important for all employed persons. If you can no longer work for health reasons, the insurance pays a monthly pension. As a rule, the statutory reduced earning capacity pension is not sufficient in the event of occupational disability. Your state of health and your occupation play a decisive role in whether you get this insurance and at what price. It therefore makes sense to take out this insurance at a young age. Pay attention to an insurer with good financial strength.

A household contents insurance covers damage to your movable property caused by fire, tap water, storm, robbery or burglary. A household contents insurance makes sense, since in the event of damage the replacement of furniture, household items and appliances as well as clothing and jewellery can become very expensive. A natural hazards insurance is needed to cover damage caused by floods, floods and earthquakes.

A health insurance for holidays abroad can be useful. The statutory health insurance covers some costs depending on the country of travel. Often, certain treatments and medically necessary repatriation are not reimbursed. If you spend more than eight weeks abroad, you will need a special contract. Favourable rates, e.g. for family insurance, are available from approx. 20 € per year.

Questions and answers

What do I do in case of damage?

If possible, an extension of the damage is to be prevented or reduced. Record the name and address of those involved in the damage. Document the extent of the damage and if necessary document everything with sketches, photos or video. If necessary, search for witnesses. If minors are involved, parents or legal guardians must always be notified. Report the damage immediately to your insurance company. Tip: Check whether it makes sense to report the damage to the insurance company. If the loss is only minor, it may sometimes be advisable to pay it yourself in consideration of the no-claims bonus.
