People and language
The Saxons are friendly and cordial people who like to help others.
The population in Saxony is declining because many people were looking for work in the West. Especially in rural areas there are therefore more older people. However, birth rates are currently rising again in Saxony. Especially older people are strongly influenced by the experiences of the GDR. As a result, people are very close to tradition and families. Equality between men and women is practised in everyday life. On the other hand, there is also a lot of fear of the future, social envy and xenophobia in Saxony, although there is only a 4% share of foreigners here.
Like many regions in Germany, Saxony has a dialect as its own form of the German language. This is still spoken by many people today, so that some things could be difficult to understand. The Saxon dialect connects many words with each other, so that one cannot distinguish them cleanly. Besides everything is pronounced softly like e.g. K like a G and a T like a D and A like an O. The Saxon has also many own words like e.g. Nu for yes. All people master the German language, as it is taught in schools as well as in German courses. Moreover, since the German reunification in Saxony there has been an increase in population from other federal states in many places, so that more and more people can be found in Saxony without the typical dialect.
