The district of Nordsachsen is located in the north of the Free State of Saxony, the administrative seat is the district town of Torgau. In nature parks and the unique floodplain landscapes along the Elbe and Mulde rivers there is a well-developed hiking and cycling network. The region also impresses with its proximity to the cultural and trade fair city of Leipzig. With the closure of the lignite opencast mines, a lake landscape unique in Germany has emerged around Leipzig in recent years. Leipzig/Halle Airport is of great economic importance, contributing to the development of tourism and, above all, the logistics sector.
