The district of Görlitz is considered the third largest of the ten new districts in Saxony and is the most easterly district in Germany. It contains a total of 22 nature reserves, which cannot be more diverse. From the "Königshainer Bergen" to the "Niederspreer Teichgebiet" numerous nature trails invite you to explore. Historically interesting are the "Zittauer Fastentuch" from 1472 or the typical "Oberlausitzer Umgebindehäuser" (Upper Lusatian Upper Lusatian Upper Lusatian half-timbered houses), special types of houses which are characterized by different construction methods. The district of Görlitz offers numerous cultural events, such as the street theatre festival "Via Thea" in Görlitz, the "Sorbian Easter Riding" as well as countless museums and landscape parks. Economically the district profits by its situation above all from German-Polish-Czech economic relations in the industries metal construction, glass industry and renewable energies. Agriculture is also a strong economic sector.
