Religion

For historical reasons Saxony itself has a very strong Christian tradition.

Due to the history of the GDR, the majority of the population is denominationless. Many people are therefore also without belonging to an official denomination of Christian faith and still live the Christian values. Officially, 21% of the population is Protestant and 4% Roman Catholic. 1.5 % belong to the free Christian and Orthodox communities. The Jewish community is represented by less than 1 %. The Muslim faith can be practiced in Saxony, whereby the Muslim population share is very low in Saxony with less than 1%.
